Aspect™ Skin Hydration Tips
Hydrated skin is skin that not only glows and looks smooth and plump, but is often functioning at an optimal level for skin health. Hydration is also key to ensure the skin can protect itself as well as withstand more advanced skin treatments such as peels and laser.
Dehydrated skin is similar but different to dry skin and when choosing the correct product, it’s good to have a better understanding of the differences.
DRY Vs DEHYDRATED
DRY SKIN SYMPTOMS:
- Irritation
- Flakiness
- Redness
- Itchiness
This is due to the oil in the skin being out of balance as the skin is not producing enough.
DEHYDRATED SKIN SYMPTOMS:
- Appearance of fine lines & wrinkles (crepey skin)
- Prominent dark circles and shadows under the eyes
- Dull looking skin
- Itchiness
- Puffy eyes
This is due to a depletion of water reserves in the skin.
While rehydrating the skin requires water to be reintroduced, moisturising the skin will add assistance in retaining the water – “locking it in”. If you only add water to the skin, the feeling of hydration would be temporary as the water will soon escape through evaporation. To best hydrate the skin, look for ingredients that not only help with the water content but also ingredients that assist with locking it in.
Hyaluronic Acid (HA) is a naturally occurring substance in the body that helps skin look and feel smoother, plumper and hydrated. Unfortunately, it naturally declines with each passing day, resulting in visible ageing. So, what can be done to help replenish your skin hydration?
- Drink plenty of water
We often hear ‘drink 8 glasses of water a day to rehydrate your skin’ – this will most definitely help maintain body hydration and to some degree skin hydration, but water alone may not be enough. Your body may also require more than 8 glasses according to your lifestyle, so adjust as needed.
- Avoid long hot showers
Long, hot showers are often a pleasure we all enjoy, however, bathing for a long time can eradicate your skin’s barrier. This may result in loss of moisture content and necessary oils which can dehydrate your skin. Using lukewarm water while bathing is ideal.
- Regular in clinic skin services
A variety of in clinic skin treatments are available to help maximise hydration in the skin. Medi-Facials target dehydration by intensively flooding the skin with hydration and moisture. Peels help remove unwanted buildup of excess dead skin cells lying on the skin surface that can often impact the absorption of hydrating and moisturising ingredients. LED works to re-energize the skin.
- Use hydrating skincare products every day
Boosting your skincare routine with these moisture magnet ingredients like Hyaluronic Acid can help fend off premature ageing and restore deep hydration, fullness, and radiance in your skin. Combined with moisturisers to help lock in the hydration.
